Since its formation in the historic year of 1916, when the proud name of “The O’Rahilly” was adopted, the club has played its full part and grown in stature, as it successfully promoted the aims and ideals of the G.A.A. Over the years, the O’Rahilly Club has acquired an enviable reputation among the clubs of Tyrone, and indeed much further afield, of being a formidable footballing force and while not wishing to diminish in any way the prowess of those who went before or who followed, it is fair to say that it was the teams of the fifties and sixties who established and built the club’s great championship tradition, which continues right to the present day.
The record of the club’s achievements in every sphere, is quite properly a matter of tremendous pride to all in the O’Rahilly ‘family’, and I hope that the loyalty to the Association’s ideas and the spirit of honest endeavour and perseverance that have marked the club’s every venture, will continue to characterise their work in the years ahead.
Is ábhar áthais dom go bhfuil stair iomlán anois againn – stair a chuireann i gcuntas fás an chumainn, a chuireann síos ar shaol shóisialta agus chultúrtha an dúiche, agus a thugann mion chuntas ar a chúnamh dom saol Gaelach i dTír Eoghain. Ba mhaith liom mo chomhgairdeas chroíuíl a dheanamh leis an chumann faoin’ obair mhór seo.
