Clonoe O’Rahilly’s Weekly Notes

For Monday 11th August 2017

Two fantastic results at the weekend for the Clonoe O’Rahilly’s Senior teams.

On Saturday the Senior Ladies made history by overcoming Trillick St Macartan’s to lift the Tyrone Junior Football Championship.  A Strong breeze was against the O’Rahilly girls in the first half and made scoring very difficult.  With wet conditions also hampering playing conditions the O’Rahillys trailed by 6pts at half time.  A spirited performance in the second half brought the girls storming back into the game with great attacking football and determined defending.  Trillick continued to push back at the lead we opened up but at the final whistle it was the O’Rahilly women who stood victorious.  Jubulant scenes followed from players and the many supporters when Eimear Cushnahan lifted the Championship Cup.  Huge congratulations to all the players and managers who have put in the hard work throughout the season.

On Sunday the Senior Men took to the field in Carrickmore to take on Dromore St Dympna’s in the first round of the Championship.  Once again the contidtions were less than optimum for playing football and players had to work extra hard.  At the break the O’Rahilly’s trailed by one point and had it all to do in the second half.  Dromore pressed their advantage and with 7mins left on the clock they led by four butt was the O’Rahilly men who led a late surge.  With a goal from Patrick Doris to rejuvinate the attack, the Clonoe team dug deep to reassert dominance in middle of the park and push for a two point lead into added time.  With a free kick for Dromore in the final seconds dropping into the Clonoe square the defense held to force the ball back out of the danger area for the final whistle cheers from the O’Rahilly players and supporters.

Lotto numbers this week were 4, 13, 14 & 22.  There were no jackpot winners, consolation prize winner was Siobhan Brady.  Next week’s jackpot rises to £1475.

Details of the upcoming Senior and U16 championship fixtures have yet to be confirmed and will be posted as soon as possible.
